New Product

We have received more Tim Holtz product in, more grungeboard, more adage tickets, more more more! We have also received Basic Grey's newest line...Bittersweet. This is great for Valentines, for everyday and for weddings that have/are used/using the ever popular colour combination: pink and brown.

Layout and Colours

I have to apologize for not posting last week. It has turned out to be quite hectic!
However, the layout posted now is based on last week's colour combination and sketch. I have had this photo for quite some time now and just could never figure out quite what to do with it, until i created the sketch.

On another note, the survey is still up and running, so if you have not taken the opportunity to answer the survey questions, please take a moment to check it out. The survey will be running until the 29th of December.

Your Ideas?...

I had one of my customers come to the store the other day. She provided me with a tremendous idea and so I wanted to place this out to the general crowd and ask what you think.
So, if you would take a few minutes to answer my survey telling me what you think. I do appreciate all the feedback! Click on the link below titled Survey to begin. (This survey is a short 5 question survey).

Grungeboard

Another idea for you to look at. This is a video demo using grungeboard from Tim Hotlz' blog. Literally, when I want to be awe inspired I continue to visit his site (as you may have noticed, because I keep finding links to his site for you).

Colour Combinations and Christmas Wreaths

I created this Christmas Wreath Christmas Card based on the colour combo from last week. I heat embossed with green emboss powder, then used water colour pencils, and crackle accents on the balls. I used the doodlebug flocked paper and brownish cream and green cardstock.

p.s. click on the water colour pencil link to bring you to our tv demos and see how to use them

Colours

Here is another colour combination: red/green and tan.
I will show you what i have created with it next week. What do you think you would create with this colour combination? Granted, we are in the Christmas season, however, this colour combination would work really well with any outdoor theme also.

Sketch Layout

The layout based on the sketch. It was a two page layout, however, I did not have enough photos to create a two page.

Tim Holtz and new Ideas

I just noticed that there is no Thursday post. I will repost the entry tomorrow as I am not sure why it did not upload?

However, to provide you with some new ideas and possibly, some new inspiration go to the Tim Holtz Blog.
In this link he has created a tag with great techniques on distressing, masking and blending. Check it out at November Technique Challenge

Joy

Last week, I used a colour swatch consisting of blues, greys and even blacks. We created a card based on these colours: 2 hues of blue - 3 actually, silver and cream.
Instead of grey we used silver and instead of black we used dark blue. And of course, it is a Christmas card.

Your Motivation

I was reading a book the other day. It got me thinking, what is my motivation behind scrapbooking?
There are so many different reasons:
- healing
- expressing emotion
- goal setting
- simply creating
- for your family/generational/ancestral

Definitely, depending on how you scrapbook, will determine how your layouts are created. If you scrapbook for your family and solely create event based layouts, why not try a goal setting layout? For example, you may want to run a marathon...take a photo of your runners and journal how you plan on achieving that goal! Try Something New, Something out of your Comfort!

Still thinking of Christmas

I took time time to remember and be thankful for all that I have yesterday, as well try to everyday. Now, though, I am full on with Christmas thinking. Therefore, with Christmas on it way, I am crazily thinking about cards; so let's work on a Christmas colour combination. This wintry theme came from colourlovers.com

Songs

As i am working today, i have been downloading some music. Isn't it 'funny' that certain music sets certain moods - whatever mood you choose to be in. Well, as a challenge why don't you choose either a song title or lyrics from a song and use them on your next layout.

Quote and Sketch

I doubled up with last week's quote and sketch. I thought it was appropriate for the layout I was working on.

We now Got It

What is It?
It is the Slice Machine by Making Memories
And I have to say, it is an incredible little machine.
It can cut literally, hundreds of shapes, from many of the styles you have grown to love by Making Memories - letters, shapes and shaped letters...
This little machine allows you to cut at your setting, unplugged. Just plug it back in to take a charge when you need to. It cuts up to 4", will cut any type of paper, including vinyl and acetate and no replacement mats necessary. The tool comes with a tempered glass mat, that uses repositionable glue to hold the various types of papers in place. Come check it out! Hint: This may be the Christmas gift you are waiting anxiously for!

Colour Theme

It is getting to be that time of year again...the one where we all start creating Christmas Cards! I created this one with a stamp we have at the store, watercolour pencils, flock and glimmer mists. The colour combo from last week sure brings home that 'Christmas in the Country' feeling!

P.S. The new demo video has been uploaded to the website - view it at: scrap & bean

We are creating a colour combination again this week. Working with these colours evokes fall neutrality, a warm blanket, cuddling up to the fireplace and hot chocolate. Have fun, next week will be the layout.

Hero Arts

We have received Hero Arts at the store. They have some tremendous new Christmas stamps and embellishments. Come take a look at their newest product!

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Layout

I am one day late and one day early, in a sense. The colours I used on this layout is the colour combination from last week. So much fun, fresh and young enthusiasm from the colours that inspired the layout. The layout is also from the sketch last week. I had so many photos and i wanted to place them all on the one page, therefore, I printed a bunch of wallet sized photos and created the orientation based on the sketch.
All the product is Cosmo Cricket Jack's World that is at the store.

Colour Combo

Yesterday, I announced new classes and the website update. Therefore I thought I would create an extra entry for the colour entry that was supposed to have occurred yesterday.
Anyways, you will find a colour scheme that i created based on some paper colours. For some odd reason the dark blue on the far left is supposed to be RED! It did not upload correctly and I tried and retried a few times. So bear in mind the colour scheme is RED, YELLOW, BLUE, GREEN! Bright, mainly primary colours that we don't always work with as they are often considered too BOLD. Give it a try, next week, I will show you my layout!

New Product

We have received new product in the store once again. New Basic Grey, including chipboard, rub ons, buttons, brads and letters. We have more Christmas and winter papers and board books again.

Thursday, September 25, 2008

Sketch = Layout

Here is a layout based on last weeks sketch. A stretch you may say? Well sort of, however, look at the layout as a one page layout, just the right hand side. Now we are getting somewhere...then instead of pattern paper or ribbon, add pattern paper and photos atop of the paper and you just may have the right hand sided sketch as the layout that is posted.

The Colour Red

My interpretation of red...we have nice new Christmas papers at the store, so i was inspired. Inspired to create a Christmas layout and really inspired by Tim Holtz. If you go to his blog, you will see that my layout is strikingly similar to his mirror. Oh well. I just really liked it and thought that because I forced you and myself to create a red layout, Christmas was apropos.
Festive and fun and celebratory...Red.

Another Sketch for the Week

Ahhh, today is a sketch - i always look forward to creating the sketches. Now i have to figure out which photos i will use? I have a week to figure it out and post it for you to see.

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Colours

Working with red. I have to admit, I do not work with red very often. It is not one of my favourite colours, but...sometimes it takes working out of ones' shell to move forward. So, to challenge myself and you let's work on a layout with red in it.
When I think of red, I think: Christmas, sultry, lipstick, pomegranate ...
Red: creates a sense of intimacy and strength. Red excites our senses and activates blood circulation. It is the color of passionate love, sensuality and desire. Red is joyful. Red evokes, speed and action. It is no coincidence that so many sports cars are red. Red and orange are the hues that are easiest to perceive from a distance. This is one of the reasons they are used to warn against dangers. They are also the colors of prohibition. Stop signs and traffic lights are red. Warnings on medication packages are printed in red. Red attracts our attention. People who like to wear red tend to be ambitious, impulsive, excitable, and energetic. They tend to be high achievers, courageous and extroverted, which can make them good leaders. ~ compiled in part from Porter

New Items In Store

We have received more shipments in store. So many fall papers, Halloween and Christmas.
My Mind's Eye laundry line has come in with glittered papers, acrylic stamps and die cuts and embellishments to coordinate. Little Yellow Bicycle has slipped through the doors with Halloween inspiration to all those 'little ghouls.' Christmas and Halloween from My Mind's Eye and even chipboard embellishments to match these! As well, 3bugs in a Rug have come in - these lines include Fall, Winter and Christmas. Wonderfully bright and coordinating for all the events of the coming season!

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Sketch = Layout

Last week's sketch created this layout.
- these are old photos from 1993 - thought I would pull them out as I thought they were fitting for this type of layout.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

A quote in Use

I decided to use last week's quote in my journalling of how my husband and I met. I used doodlebug pattern paper, bazzill brads, bazzill cardstock and typed my journalling on a transparency (if you are doing this, make sure to let it dry for at least 15 min. prior to handling - i learned the hard way)!

SKETCH

Here is the sketch for this week. As usual, next week will be the layout. What will yours look like?

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

A Quote

I seem to have quotes posted in books and lying around everywhere i turn...
A quote for today (Tuesday's) entry (i don't know that i ever saw this movie, but found the quote somewhere):
"you're everything i never knew i always wanted."
~ fools rush in

Tim Holtz

General

Like everyone, i run flat out of ideas, therefore i keep an idea box. Whenever i see a nice colour scheme, layout or a sketch that i would like to eventually work with, i place them in a jar. This way when i run out of those ideas, i can pull an idea out of the jar and begin to work. I like this because the thought and the process has already occurred, i just now have to put in the time.

Layouts

I apologize for not posting last week. However, I have the entries here now.
The colour layout and sketch layout is all in one with the layout i posted below. My interpretation on the colour and sketch...
