Another video idea.

I really like to work with alcohol inks. Last week in the video, Iron Orchid Designs showed you how to use alcohol inks with the paintables. This week are more ideas with how to use the alcohol inks by Tim Holtz.

Colour Schemes = Layout

Last week I showed you a colour scheme. THis week, using that same colour palette, I created a layout.
There is some brown and pink in this layout that was not evident in the colour scheme, however variations are allowed - of course! The double matte is the black and turquoise, as well, the polka dots and pattern papers carry the various colours from the the scheme.
I used the fancy pants papers line and bazzil cardstock to create this layout. I love their card quotes they have created and they work so well with so many different themes. Specifically, it was the Simplicity and Sweet Spring Line.

We just received a whole bunch of product in store again and wow! THis product is inspiring me to create. To name a few, more prima, including rub ons, matties (felt pieces that you can matte with), felt borders, clearn paintables.
THen there is 'October Afternoon', wonderfully cute papers, rub ons and clear stamps fully of naturally natured themes.
THere is more doodlebug now, including the spot glittered papers, various brads and trims and finally, chatterbox. Chatterbox has created trims, assortments and papers in regal colours that will look especially glam in layouts and cards for hmmm...weddings, anniversaries, and so much more!
The photos although may give you a hint, they do not do justice. Come on in and check it out!

A general

Since i have been receiving the 'prima clear paintables' in store, many have been asking how to use the products. A couple weeks ago, i posted a layout using the watercolour paintables and this week attached is a video of how to use the clear ones'. If you do not have a waterfill brush, consider using a blender pen with the alcohol inks, or you can also use the 'perfect pearls as a wet medium to decorate these paintables. Furthermore, if you do not wish to have colour on the layout, you can simply use it as a clear overlay. Some other ideas: use a paintbrush with the alcohol inks (i have not tried this yet, but will), use the slick writers or adirondack markers, these work on non-porous surfaces too. Hmmmm...the ideas are endless. I will be working on one, hopefully, over the weekend and posting asap! oh yeah, you can also use acrylics, guache or other types of painrs - however be careful with some of these as they may crack.

In the meantime, watch this video!

Sketch = Layout

I apologize about not getting this up sooner, i was working on receiving product in the store.
Nonetheless, here is the layout from the last week's sketch.
I have to insert a year for the layout, but it is complete.
I hope it has inspired you. The papers are slightly non-traditional for a heritage layout, however, i believe the papers work really well with the photo.
Papers used are basic grey, bazzil cardstock and the family title is K&Co.

Colour Schemes

Family coming in from abroad always brings a new energy to the environment and so i wanted to create colour schemes again. In our colour 'bits' we haven't worked with schemes for a while. So here we go - kind of a spring'ish' colour too. I am not sure what i will do with this colour scheme, however, definitely am liking it.
How will you work with the colour?

White WEdding

Yes, another wedding layout.
Simple and mainly white.
I wanted to portray a feeling of simplicity and 'purity', in review of white symbolism from last week's entry.
I used the doodlebug new paper line - white velvet and heidi swapp mirrors along with a small piece from my wedding dress.

week 23

Kelly Fowler has created another great weekly edition of "deck of me." Inspiration is knocking at your door:

Week 23
This week I used patterned paper to express my thoughts. So many types of paper have great expressions or sentiments already on them - makes it easy! Turning the card horizontally, I used Urban Lily patterned paper with the thought "be the best that you can be" and adhered a sheet to my card. Then I edged the card with blue pain, dabbing it on with a tissue. I took a piece of my favourite Making Memories ribbon and added it to the bottom of the card. Next, I lightly sprayed my card with spray adhesive and sprinkled little angel-fish shaped paper bits along the edge. Last, I added the American Crafts Thickers to read 'now.'

Sometimes...

When i get into a bit of a creative rut, i visit others' websites/blogs. I always enjoy seeing what others have created and accomplished, however sometimes you really just need, some inspirational juice.
Visit TIm Holtz's Creative Journey for some of that juice when needed.

Sketch = Layout

I told you i was working on my wedding, therefore, again, it is a wedding layout!? Simple, clean, timeless and effective. That is how i like it for an event that is to be remembered forever.
Looking at these photos, perpetuates memories from the past and relationships soldered over time - i am so lovin' looking through these photos and creating layouts. I sure hope these sketches has you peeking into boxes of photos of events past to conjure memories that have influenced your forever.
I used doodlebug pattern paper, bazzil bling brads, and the inkadinkado bohemian stamps. love those too!!

Lets work with Colour Again...

I am back with colour this week.
But not so much a colour as a 'non-colour'?
White!
White = is said to symbolize purity, reverence, sterility (nurses/doctors/labs), simplicity, peace (envision a Hare Krishna), innocence (hence why brides(in the west) have been known to wear white), youthfulness, birth and humility.
i adore the look of white space on a layout (now in this sense white space can be any colour).
So use white on your layout and see how it connotes the above symbolizations.

Week 22

Forgive me for never having done this previously with the 'Deck of Me' weekly insertions.
These are lovingly brought to you by Kelly Fowler, our weekly contributor (you can peek at her bio on the website). This week is:

Week 22
Layer it! This week I found a wonderful set of scraps that all seemed to blend so nicely together - but was stumped on how I could use them ALL on one tiny card.... Solution? Layer them! I used doubled-sided patterned paper and adhered the blue side 'up.' Then I added a torn strip of the patterned side to the right side, and a piece of Hambly transparency with turquoise circles. I cut out a tiny house from KI Memories, Love Elsie 'home' patterned paper and added one more green Hambly circle. To top it all off, a little bling with a Making Memories gem and a KI Memories rubber sticker.

SOmeone

The weekends sure fly by. Already sunday and we are dog sitting for about a month - i look forward to looking after the dogs though. So looking after the dogs has me thinking about mentors. As well, i am currently reading Cesar Milan's first book, "Cesar's Way." All encompassing, it has got me thinking about who people look up to?
Whom is that someone that you look up to? And not a hollywood 'two'bit star, but someone who has effected change in your life, someone you try to emulate?
Lots of times, we may know we look up to someone and think about them, but don't quite know why or how to put it in words. Try, it on a layout and see...
